First and foremost, we are here to help kids grow into successful young people. Wrestling is simply a tool to do that, albeit one of the very best tools! Through this great sport, kids learn determination, accountability, and perseverance while building friendships that will last a lifetime.
Coach Donny Simpson said it best "I know I wouldn’t be the person I am today if not for wrestling. It gave me my work ethic, and the attitude that if something isn’t going right in my life that it’s all on me, and I’m the only one who can change it. Made me comfortable being in very uncomfortable situations in life."
If you're new to wrestling, read through the Parent Information pages to get an idea of what to expect. Better yet, come check out a practice for free and see firsthand what we're all about!

Saturday, January 22, 2022 we will be hosting our annual home tournament within the AYWO-AAU Gladiator series in loving memory of Henry L. Schwan III. Henry and his wife Laverne have been an integral part of wrestling in Athens for over 30 years with their sons and now their grandchildren. Henry loved wrestling and was always willing to help in any way he could. We hope he smiles down on our tournament dedication, and the love and fond memories we share will bring a little extra comfort to his family.

NAEW teamed up with Florence Youth Wrestling and Athens High School Wrestling to take a group of 25 wrestlers to Iowa this summer! These wrestlers completed five grueling days of drilling, live competition and some great team bonding via the Team Olympics. Our high schoolers finished 4th in Team Olympics and 5th in Duals, middle school finished 3rd in Team Olympics and 3rd in Duals, and youth finished 1st in Team Olympics and 2nd in Duals. As they say, summer wrestling makes winter champions!
