NAEW is pleased to welcome head coach Jason Guyton for the 2019-20 season! Coach Guyton brings both wrestling experience and passion for growing the sport of wrestling right here in Alabama by starting with wrestlers as individuals. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri by Eddie and Debbie Guyton, Jason is the oldest of 3 sons (brothers are Jacobi and Jeremy Guyton). Competed in many sports - soccer, baseball, football, track, but is most recognized for wrestling. Jason began wrestling at 11 yrs old and has been associated with the sport for over 30 years. Jason was trained by his father, The University Of Iowa Hawkeye Intensive Camp, Oklahoma State University Camp, and has had additional instruction featuring Gary Mayabb, Todd Hayes, Myron Fletcher, Demetrius Jordan, Mike Haggerty, Sam Henson, Paul Cotton, Wade Hughes and many more. Known more for training versus pure athletic ability, Jason needed all that help along the way.
Most notably, The Guyton Brothers wrestled for Hall of Famer Head Coach Jim Paulsen & Hall of Famer Paul Lapinski at Hazelwood East High School from 1990 - 1995. During their tenure, Hazelwood East captured 4th place (1992), 1st place for 1st time in school history (1993), and repeated as State Champions the next 2 years (1994 - 1995). Jason was a State champion (1994), State Runner Up (1992), and 3rd place finisher (1993). Jacobi was a State Runner Up (1993), and 2x State Champion (1994, 1995). In 1994, Hazelwood East not only repeated, but experienced history as the Guyton Brothers became the 1st Black American brother duo to ever win a Missouri state in the same year, and the 1st since the Purlers in the history of Missouri state high school wrestling. The Guyton brothers finished with a combined 186 - 14 record in a 3 year span. This feat was especially important as the growth of Black American participation in Missouri USA wrestling was growing, and much sweeter due to February being Black History month. To Note, both were undefeated State Champs as seniors. Jacobi was the 1st 2x State Champion (wrestling) in the history of the school. Also, both wrestled in the summer winning Missouri USA state and qualifying for the USA Junior National Wrestling Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. The Guyton Brothers continued their wrestling career on full scholarship at Howard University (wrestling is no longer a sport at the institution due to NCAA Title IX). While Jacobi was a dual athlete in football and wrestling, Jason saw success as a 3x NCAA Division I Eastern Regional Finalist (Champion in 1995 & 1997). Under the instruction of Coach Paul Cotton and Coach Wade Hughes, Jason became the 1st Freshman in the history of Howard University wrestling to qualify for the 1995 NCAA Division I National Championship (Carver Hawkeye Arena - University of Iowa) & qualified for the 1997 NCAA Division I National Championship (University of Northern Iowa). Also, Jason was the Historically Black College & University (HBCU) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) conference champion (pinned everyone in the tourney) in its last year (Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tourney - Hosted by Deleware State University), and was Howard University Male Athlete of the Year (1995).
Today, Jason is married to Ashley (Gilbert) Guyton from Athens, Alabama. They have 4 children. Jason is a 12 year Army Veteran (deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom).
Jason Guyton is now the proud owner of the up and coming Guyton Wrestling Training which will give the same opportunities he had to the future of Alabama wrestling and beyond. Guyton Wrestling Training is based in Northern Alabama. NAEW is extremely excited for the opportunity to partner with Coach Guyton this season! (Note: Guyton Wrestling Training is a wholly separate entity from NAEW, and is only affiliated as a partnership through coaching services rendered by Coach Guyton.)
Our assistant coaches pour so much time and dedication into our wrestlers, and we'll never be able to thank them enough. They show up for every practice, every tournament, and have a level of commitment to the team, and to the sport, that is unmatched. This group of coaches has over 80 years of overall wrestling experience combined, 21 of those years being with NAEW.

This group of ladies handle the behind-the-scenes tasks that make our club run smoothly and efficiently. First and foremost, they're moms that love each and every one of our wrestlers like their own. The betterment of each child is at the forefront of each decision made. They have nearly 30 years of overall wrestling experience combined, 12 of those years being with NAEW.
