We accept boys and girls kindergarten through 8th grade, if not wrestling on a middle school team.
Folkstyle season, which is our main emphasis, runs from late October through early February. There are tournament options year-round though, if your wrestler wants to continue competing!
Typically, Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 6-8 PM at Athens High School. Changes to the schedule will be announced via GroupMe and posted on our team calendar here.
Due to Athens City Schools COVID guidelines (as of now), we cannot allow parents to stay in the mat room this year. However, every practice is streamed through a private online meeting. (This info is shared with parents via GroupMe.)
Folkstyle tournaments through the Alabama Youth Wrestling Organization (AYWO) are on Saturdays at various locations throughout the state. However, NAEW competes mainly in the north (Huntsville area) and central (Birmingham) regions. For more info on tournaments, click here.
A team t-shirt is included in your registration fee, and we have a gear store here where you can purchase your child's singlet if they choose to participate in tournaments, as well as additional athlete and fan gear. (Alternatively, your child may wear a compression shirt and shorts for tournaments.) Your child will also need wrestling shoes, headgear, and mouth guard (if they have braces). More details on optional gear can be found here.
Absolutely! We firmly believe that cost should never be a barrier to get any child into wrestling. We offer monthly payment options, sibling discounts and have scholarships available as well.
Online registration will be opened on our website by mid October and will run through the second week of November, as long as enough spaces remain available. We invite new wrestlers to come try out two weeks of (6) free practices before making a commitment, and only require a liability waiver to be signed beforehand.
